I still spend most of my time over on zombiecreaturetoken talking about Magic, so if you’re holding your breath waiting for another update, I apologize. 

My capstone presentation was yesterday. It was pretty chill. A bunch of psych majors just stand in a room with their projects tacked up next to them and answer questions when people ask them about it. Not too bad. My final paper is due Friday, and I’ll be glad to turn it in. I was a little stressed out about finals, but the one I’m most worried about is only 10% of the grade, and as long as I get a decent grade on the paper for that class I can get a C and still get the GPA I want. 

In other news, I was diagnosed with shingles, which is unfortunate. It’s a strain of herpes that’s caused by the chicken pox virus, which lies dormant in the nerve system after you get the chicken pox. I’m taking antiviral medication to avoid the postherpetic neuralgia, or a form of nerve pain that can last for a long time after the rash goes away. Let’s hope that medicine works. 

On a happy note, I’m looking forward to playing my PS3 when I get back. I’ll be getting Borderlands GOTY and playing it with some friends of mine on-line. If any of my followers have PSN accounts, let me know and I can add you once I get mine set up!

That actually sounds kind of badass. I imagine myself as like a more powerful Pied Piper, except with less kidnapping. 

The Extra Credits team discusses how the Kinect is “the uncanny valley of input devices.” It’s a fascinating discussion and I think they make some really good points in this video. 

One thing they talk about is a concept they refer to as “kinesthetic projection,” or the ability to view tools as extensions of oneself. This is how people become absorbed in games even though they’re using controllers; the controller becomes an extension of the self and players forget its even there. With the Kinect, our bodies recognize that the required motion is similar to but different from the real motion, so we reach the uncanny valley and immersion is threatened. It’s an interesting discussion, and I recommend watching the video.

So I started a new ME2 playthrough… on the PS3. I was sorta enjoying it until I talked with Mordin last night. We’re chatting about his STG days and he mentions everyone’s favorite Captain, so I have Shep say she met him and Mordin informs me KIRRAHE DIED ON VIRMIRE. 

I freaked the fuck out.

Now I don’t want to play anymore. Kirrahe is one of my favorite NPCs. 

I really wish there was some DLC you could download for the PS3 to be able to fix this, to have more backstory for your Shep on this platform. I would even be willing to pay for it. I can only afford one gaming system, and that is the PS3. I don’t hate the Xbox 360, but it’s my brother’s and when he moves out I won’t be able to use it anymore. 

Plus there is the whole Xbox Live thing. I have a very hard time paying for something that I get for free on the PS3. Especially when hubby and I have such a tight budget. I really want to play the ME3 multi-player, but $5 a month adds up quick. I could use that money for ice cream or put it towards a bill. I already pay for internet, paid for the game, and the system, why should I have to pay to game using my internet and system too? (Yes, yes, I know. Servers cost money to buy and maintain, but if PSN can make money by not charging, why can’t Microsoft?)

When you’re pretty broke and you save up money to buy a $60+ game, it’s a bit of a slap in the face to say “oh wait, you can’t play the WHOLE game without paying a monthly fee”. 

The only thing I would use Xbox Live for is the ME3 multiplayer, as I don’t enjoy playing most other shooting games, let alone play them online (that is the hubby’s thing). 

I’m feeling frustrated. 

I never realized that Genesis didn’t let you make the decisions involving Kirrahe O_o That’s a shame. Kirrahe is a badass. 

I’m getting a PS3 as a graduation present in about a month, and I’m looking for games that will take advantage of the free online multiplayer. I played Borderlands without the multiplayer and it wasn’t very exciting, but I figured I’d give it another shot. If nobody’s playing, though, I’ll find another game to play until Borderlands 2 comes out. 

It’s a toss up between Zuko/Katara and Sokka/Meat. What do you guys think?
